Canonical has released Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS. It’s the first point release of the 26.04 LTS series, codenamed “Resolute Raccoon.”
The build arrived on August 27, 2026. Point releases don’t add features. Instead, they roll up security patches, bug fixes, and fresh installation media. Full details are in the release notes.
This update is about stability, not novelty. It bundles security updates and fixes for high-severity bugs. The installation media is refreshed too. So a clean install pulls fewer updates afterward. Everything stays compatible with 26.04 LTS.
The official flavors ship alongside it. That includes Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, and Ubuntu Budgie. Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, Edubuntu, and Ubuntu Cinnamon are updated as well. Each keeps its own release notes.
Existing users get an upgrade path too. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users will be offered 26.04.1 automatically. That offer arrives through Update Manager, a couple of weeks after this release.
Canonical is holding it back to finish some backports first. Those address regressions in a recent version of rust-coreutils. If you’d rather not wait, you can upgrade now. Run do-release-upgrade -d to start. As always, the upgrade is free.
Support length depends on the edition. Ubuntu Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core get five years of maintenance. That clock started with the original 26.04 LTS release. The remaining flavors get three years. ESM adds extra security coverage beyond that.
